Strange on the Range: Zine is a grassroots-lead, not-for-profit collaborative publication that showcases comic artists, cartoonists, illustrators, and graphic novelists of Wyoming. It is a labor of love. Designed intentionally as a print-only publication, a return to analog, a tactile object to be flipped through, pocketed, traded, kept, worn, collected, and cherished, Strange is a brilliant homage to the wildly vibrant Wyoming underground arts scene.
A published writer, photographer, scientist, and artist, Ella Bishop-Heil is a self-taught multidisciplinary visual artist whose "meticulous" artwork are acclaimed as "capturing the intrinsic beauty in humankind and nature". With a mission to make publishing art and stories more accessible to Wyoming creators, and a vision to bring people and community together, she has independently curated the first and only zine for Wyoming comic art.
Ella's own award-winning art is equally compelling, and has been displayed in the Nicolaysen Art Museum, Art321, Lynchburg's Academy Center of the Arts, and the U.S. Capitol Building. She is a textbook scientist-artist. A woman in STEM, she earned a Bachelor of Science in ecology and watershed management from the University of Wyoming and pursues a decorated career in conservation and ecological restoration outside of Casper, WY.
